#stayinsane series: Be the Light

Putting kindness into practice. Power of kindness is evident, but what are some of the practical ways to be kind to others in this season? What can you actually do?

"But I don't know what to do....."

"But I don't have much to give...."

"But I'm struggling too... What good could I possibly do for others right now?" "But I don't know who would need my help..."

"But I'm stuck at home...." "But [insert excuse]...."

Many often mistake (read: limit) kindness to big intimidating glory moments with flashy lights - one that many are likely to fall short from. Truth is, you don't need to be a billionaire to be kind. Being kind is as simple as showing love to others; because, well, love is kind.

⯅ Being kind = loving your neighbour

Sprinkles of kindness!

Start with small acts of kindness. It doesn't have to be much, it only has to be intentional. There are a million ways to be kind but here are some that we've compiled - please feel free to add on to it! :)

Quality Time

- Bake a cake with your family (desserts are a good place to start!)

- Watch a movie with your family (Netflix Party if you're away!)

- Make an effort to video call your loved ones who are away

- Check in on your extroverted friends

- Check in on your mama/papa friends (entertain their kids for a bit whilst they take a breather!)

- Check in on friends who are apart from family during this season

Acts of Service

- Volunteer to warm up your parent's car engine

- Tutor your friend's kid on Zoom

- Spring clean your wardrobe: set aside blankets for a local shelter

- Helping an elderly person with errands (groceries, bills, online payments)

- Bless your security guard with a wholesome meal and SAY THANK YOU!

Words of Affirmation

- Be kind and considerate in your words and actions to those in essential services

- Send out ONLY texts that spread hope, breaking the flow of chain messages

- Thank your teachers for adapting to online classes in such a short period of time

- Write an encouraging comment to your local business' Facebook or Instagram page <3

- Express your gratitude to our frontliners! Say a prayer for them :)

Gifts

- Write thank-you-notes to every single of your friends (give it to them when you next see them in person)

- Leave a generous tip to your deliveryman

- Buy grocery items for your home helper or anyone you know may be facing a tough financial situation

- Give a care package (face masks, hand sanitizer, gloves, clean packaged food and a bottle of water) to a homeless person

- Bless your local orphanage or welfare home with a load of groceries and necessities

Physical Touch

- Dear physical touch peeps, we know how tough these past couple of weeks must have been for you. Hang in there, things will get better soon. Here's a reminder that we love you! (from a distance)

In all honesty, with love

Please practice social distancing <3 This is the greatest form of love you can express at this point in time <3 Humanity will thank you for it in the long run. We'll do our part to #flattenthecurve together. Come on, we can do this!

And to those of you who are away from your loved ones in this season, please reach out <3 We are here for you, we'd love to hear from you. Sending you lots and lots and lots of good vibes and love your way.
